Brianna Acacia, one of our 8th grade students, has been honored for her exemplary volunteer service with a state level Certificate of Excellence from the 2012 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards Program. She was nominated for this award by The Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore in Farmingdale, where she is a member.

Brianna earned her award for creating a project which included a collection of suitcases and essentials for foster children. Since most foster children carry their belongings from family to family in plastic bags, Brianna wanted them to have something they could call their own.

God bless Brianna for truly showing the compassion of Christ.

Each month NJUCA students select an organization to minister to through financial and other support. Representatives from these organizations speak at our Chapel throughout the school year. This year our students have supported the following organizations:

Dream Alive (A ministry of Arabs and Americans working together to spread the Gospel to Muslims in America ); Promised Land Ministry (serving the children of Guatemala since 1991); and Samaritan’s Purse (International Christian relief and evangelism organization provides spiritual and physical aid to victims of war, poverty, natural disaster, and disease).

For 2012, our students have chosen to support Camp Melody (a non-profit organization allowing boys ages 10-14 year old to attend summer camp for one week free of cost. Many of the campers are in the foster care system or come from broken homes); and Angel’s Haven (an orphanage and school for the handicapped). The students collect a donation of $3.00 to help support these organizations. For more information, please ask your child or contact the school office.

Very exciting news here at the school, Friday, May 20, 2011, two of our students won the NJ Youth Service Award for their community leadership project! This is the Governor’s Jefferson Award. The awards ceremony took place at The State Museum in Trenton. Most were classrooms that won – but we had two students win individually, Selena Baugh won the Citizenship Award, and Brianna Acacia won the Community Improvement Award. Both students are in 7th grade! We are very proud of our students!
